Are you looking to have your event catered but are finding that prices are a little steep? Have you tried looking into food trucks instead of traditional catering options?

How much does a food truck cost to rent, you ask? Well, it depends on the food truck rental space, the type of food you want, the amount of guests, and more. 

Let’s look at bit closer.

Event Type 

Food truck vendor fees and prices for events can vary. It all depends on what your event is along with that truck’s individual booking fee.

For example, some food trucks will sometimes go out to an event without a booking fee if there is a history of great sales at a particular location. Or they might waive it for the right food truck coordinator. 

To get a truck to come out for the best price, it’s best to use a food truck booking company to handle the booking details and coordination.

Minimum Guarantee Cost

Unless your event has those connections to get a truck to come to your event for free, you’ll typically have to provide a minimum guarantee to bring out a food truck to a small to medium sized event.

Food trucks can request a minimum guarantee ranging from $300 to $1000 depending on the truck. This means you would pay the minimum guaranteed amount for them to come out and this amount would count as pre-payment towards a set amount of food. 

Any orders over this amount would either be paid for by you or the patron that’s ordering. So technically, you could tell everyone “open bar until the tab runs out.”

How Much Does a Food Truck Cost to Rent Compared to Traditional Catering Options?

Food truck catering prices tend to be lower than standard restaurant catering. 

According to an article on Thumbtack, the national average cost for catering a guest at your wedding costs $68, but if it were to be catered by a food truck, that cost would drop to $20-$25 per guest

The lower costs are usually due to the lower overhead of operating a food truck as opposed to a restaurant with a commercial kitchen. Traditional catering requires food to be cooked ahead of time, packaged, stored, and heated again for serving. 

This diminishes the overall taste and quality of the meal.

That’s one of the greatest things about using a food truck: the food is fresh and made on the spot, at a lower cost overall!

Other Cost Factors

There are a few other variables that could affect the food truck vendor feeds and the overall price of catering your event with a food truck. Some examples of these other factors include:

  • Amount of expected patrons
  • Requested special dishes/options
  • Menus, paper products, etc
  • Power costs
  • Gas and/or travel costs to get to your event
  • Consumer demand and popularity

You’ll need to speak with each individual food truck to know the exact cost of their services and presence at your event.
